FREAKY RECORD FRIDAY

I bought this album just for the cover, which was a good thing since it didn't have a record. The Rhodes Kids were a family group like The Cowsills and if you look on you-tube there are several songs from this LP. The Rhodes Kids have an interesting connection to The Mob (unbeknownst to them, I'm sure) , you can read it HERE.

FREAKY RECORD FRIDAY

James Brown released two Christmas Albums in the 1960's, the first one above was released in 1968 and it contains my favorite James Brown Christmas song "Santa Claus Go Straight To The Ghetto". Unfortunately, I no longer own that LP on vinyl. I do own the bottom LP (last two photos - front and back of LP), which was released in 1966.

FREAKY RECORD FRIDAY

Rudy Ray Moore (aka Dolemite) - This Ain't No White Christmas - above are two versions of the same LP, the bottom photo is the original issue, the top photo is the reissued version. Rudy only sings one song on the LP - "Merry Christmas Baby", the rest of the LP is Moore's stand-up comedy routine including his take on "Night Before Christmas".

FREAKY RECORD FRIDAY

Even Gospel Groups tried to cash in on Elvis' death. And what's up with the front cover? I keep thinking there's something subliminal in the crashing wave, but maybe The Laymen were just too ugly for a photo.

FREAKY RECORD FRIDAY

I know some people don't like Ventriloquist's Dummies, but they usually don't bother me; however, there's something about the photo of Candy sitting at the control panel of her weekly radio program that creeps me out.

HOOTENANNY
Tommy Scott's Hollywood Hillbillies

This cover both amuses me and also pisses me off.
I swear we don't ALL look like this in The South.

Freaky Record Friday

This album may not be as "freaky" as the majority of the LPs featured on Freaky Record Friday, but the title really amuses me.

FREAKY RECORD FRIDAY

Scott Paper commissioned this one sided promotional LP to promote their vending cups. It seems they weren't all that happy with the finished product; since along with declaring their cups made Holy Water taste Holier and Chicken Soup taste twice as Jewish, Allan Sherman also included an ecological song ("The Wonderful Tree In The Forest")

I've heard the term "fisting", but was surprised to see Homer & Jethro giving a visual presentation.

When it came to Mods and Rockers, Liberace definitely came down on the side of The Mods.

Check out these excerpts from the back liner notes - "McKee has long been most appreciative for the contribution the Southern Negro has made to his own life with their delightful natural humor.  Mr McKee has been closely associated with many Negro people since early childhood"

Alright, confess - Who Stole The Keeshka? ....IF it's the lovely woman on the cover, where is she hiding it?

FREAKY RECORD FRIDAY

Streaking was a big fad in the early 70s - so big that Rev. Sexton of Asheville NC recorded this sermon.

BTW, in case you're interested: The Answer is Yes!
